Benrus Golden Voice Cricket by Vulcain From President Lyndon B. Johnson
This is a very special timepiece with incredible provenance. At first glance, it may appear to be a normal Golden Voice Cricket. When you look closer, it begins to get more interesting. First, the watch is signed Benrus. This is extremely uncommon, as Benrus had their own alarm watches using the A. Schilds movement. Then when you notice the arched motto “Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You” it begins to get more interesting. The Golden Rule can be found on several rare Patek Philippe Reference 2526 dials, which common theory suggests they were special orders from President Lyndon B. Johnson. He would often give these watches out as gifts to work colleagues and friends. Additionally, this dial bears the President’s initials L.B.J. which is also seen on his personal Vulcain Cricket.
This watch was given to the wife of Lawrence J Klein, who managed President Johnson’s ranch. As for the watch which was given to Klein, he had received a Rolex Day-Date reference 1803! The watch comes from the family of the original owner.
The watch is gold plated, and remains unpolished. It is a rare model which I have not seen before. It does not come with box and papers. The watch has just been serviced. It measures approximately 22.3mm in diameter.
