Cartier Tank Louis Mini in 18k Gold circa 1985

Nothing beats the simple elegance of a gold Cartier Tank. Andy Warhol, Jackie Kennedy, Princess Diana, Alain Delon, Steve McQueen, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Truman Capote, Gary Cooper, Fred Astaire, Catherine Deneuve, Duke Ellington, Warren Beatty, and so many more are believed to have worn Cartier Tanks. This watch dates to the 1980s and is a small version in 18k gold marketed toward ladies. It was made in Switzerland and has the Cartier secret signature in the 10:00 ‘X’ Roman numeral marker that Cartier began implementing in the 1970s to help consumers know they were buying a real Cartier and not one of the many fake Cartier watches that was flooding the market at that time.

Jackie Kennedy wore a similar small-sized Tank that was sold at Christie’s New York in 2017 for over $300,000 while I worked there. This Tank Louis was made in Switzerland and has a manual-winding mechanical movement. It measures 18.5mm in diameter excluding the crown and is 25mm from the top of the lug to the bottom of the lug. It is simply a magnificently elegant watch.
