Jaeger-LeCoultre Reference 2983 on Gay Freres Bracelet Unpolished w/ Extract
This is one of my favorite vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watches. It is a time-only reference 2983 and is an uncommon model. The stainless steel case is unpolished. It measures 37mm in diameter or 45mm lug-to-lug, which is very large for time-only vintage JLC models. Other models in this size from the era include Powerwinds, Futurematics, and several waterproof cases of the period. It has a very slender height of 10mm (including the domed case back and crystal). The watch is a very elegant timepiece that reminds me of some of the 1950s Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet models. It has very attractive applied Arabic numerals 3, 6, 9 and 12, with great arrow markers seen on many JLCs and similar to the Rolex Padellone. It is paired on a period correct Gay Freres bracelet.
You can learn more by reading my article on the watch from a few years back ‘The Vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre Reference 2983: It’s about time for time-only JLC to get its praise’.
This watch does not come with box and papers. It was serviced in 2021 and is running well. It does come with an Extract from The Archives which dates the watch to circa 1952. I originally found the watch with a signed JLC service crown, however I located an unsigned crown for a similar JLC model. To me, this is one of the most beautiful vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre models, and I hope the next owner appreciates it as much as I do.
