Hairspring: Wind Vintage's OMEGA Racing Dial Featured
Erik Gustafson recently highlighted Wind Vintage’s OMEGA Racing Dial Speedmaster ST 145.022.
“Exotic dials aren’t just for Rolex. Meet the Omega equivalent of Paul Newman, just no one ever frames it in that light. This is the 145.022 ‘Orange Racing’, a 1969/1970 Speedmaster variant with a grey Singer dial that is about as colorful as a Coldplay concert on acid. No one knows quite why Omega decided to try this dial variant in the late 60s. But they make Newmans look positively common. Estimates of total production run from roughly 100-150 examples across 3 variants. This is the last variant of the original trio of racing variants, in spectacular condition. This 145.022 appears to be gorgeous on condition. The case, certainly, is razor sharp. There’s a tiny light scratch on the lower right lug from what I can see, that’s the only thing deeper than hairlines. Its dial, comparably, is sporting no visible damage and bright tones well-preserved. The tritium is nice an cream in tone. It comes with an Extract of Archive from 2021, from a well-regarded Miami retailer.”
