Rolex Daytona 6239 “Double-Swiss Underline”
The “Double-Swiss Underline” reference 6239 is the origin of the legendary Daytona family. At the time, this watch was not even called the “Daytona”, but in early literature it was once given the name “Le Mans”. In addition to the “underline” below COSMOGRAPH, there are two SWISS signatures at the bottom, one above the luminous dot at 6 o’clock and one below the track that is partially covered by the rehaut metal ring holding the crystal in place. It also features an extremely rare steel bezel with dashes rather than next to the numbers and the number 275 on the bezel, which is not found on the later steel Daytona bezels for the four-digit references (6239, 6262, or 6265). This example came from the son of the original owner, who purchased this watch new to help him time his work as an enthusiast film director.
