Rolex Explorer reference 1016
The Rolex Explorer reference 1016 is one of the purest expressions of watch design, and it is for this reason that I am probably asked for vintage Explorer reference 1016s more than any other watch. And gentleman including Fred Savage, Randall Park, Toby Bateman, and Stephen Pulvirent all wear vintage 1016s so well! This one came out of a small auction in Sweden and I just had it serviced. The case serial number dates the watch to 1975. The hands have aged a little darker than the dial, but are fully original and this is common given that the tritium luminous material reacts with the metal on the outside of the hands to darken. The bracelet is a beautiful and tight folded-link 7836 with 258 end links dated to 1970. I purchased the bracelet separately and added it to the watch since the watch was purchased on a strap from Sweden and may have originally been sold without a bracelet.
