North Polar Expedition Rolex Fat Lady GMT-Master II Reference 16760
This is a historically significant watch worn by a member of the 1986 Steger International Polar Expedition on their journey to the North Pole. Led by Will Steger and Paul Schurke, over the course of two months the expedition traveled by dog sled to the North Pole without resupply. Six of the eight expedition members made it to the Pole, with the remaining two being evacuated out along the way by airplane. As one of the expedition's sponsors, Rolex supplied each member of the team with a watch they wore on their journey. Rolex also used the expedition in their advertising, cementing the expedition as a part of Rolex lore.
This watch is a GMT Master II reference 16760. It is engraved on the caseback with the inscription "1986 Steger International Polar Expedition". The case has been polished. The hands are service hands with SuperLuminova. It features an 8.4M serial dating to circa 1984. It was acquired by a collector who purchased it from a family member of the explorer. It comes with a letter from the expedition member confirming it was worn during the expedition, as well as a number of other items related to the expedition.
The watch does not come with box and papers. The watch comes with a letter from the original owner, as well as a patch from the original owner. We do not know the service history, but it is running well.
