Rolex GMT-Master “Gilt Dial” PCG reference 1675, Box and Papers

The Rolex GMT-Master was originally designed for Pan Am pilots in the 1950s and continues to be a flagship model for Rolex to this day. The present watch comes directly from the good friend of the original owner.

This is a spectacular gilt dial reference 1675 with inside case back production from the fourth quarter of 1960. This watch features a closed chapter ring dial with attractive lume, but has the “Pointed Crown Guards” that are also sometimes referred to as “Cornino” by Italian collectors. The case is extremely crisp and has only been very lightly polished by Rolex at some point. The dial and luminous material are mint and extremely attractive. There are some light scratches on the crystal, but the dial looks perfect underneath that.

It’s a treasure for the connoisseur of exceptional Rolex watches and could take someone years to find one as nice. I believe the bezel insert is original (the red on the bezel turning to a coppery-orange I see on gilt GMT-Masters in this gilt serial range) with some light scratches and wear. As some like to say, try and find another like this!

This watch is from circa 1961 (673 thousand serial number), includes the original box, papers, sales receipt, COSC certificate, and Rolex USA service record, has an automatic movement (Caliber 1560 made by Rolex), and is 40mm in diameter. The Rolex Swiss 7206 bracelet with 80 end links is from 1969 and a later addition to the watch.
