Rolex Milgauss Reference 6541 Unpolished
The Rolex Milgauss reference 6541 is an incredible timepiece produced for scientists and doctors who worked in highly-magnetic environments. Only a few hundred examples of the Milgauss reference 6541 were produced at most and they remain mythical for collectors of rare sport Rolex watches. In 2023, a similar Rolex Milgauss sold at auction for approximately $2.5 Million. These watches were very special featuring honeycomb dials, a lightning seconds hand and hour markers unique for the Milgauss model. Along with the interesting design, the case is very robust on the wrist.
This example dates to circa 1958-1959 with a 412,XXX serial, like all the other reference 6541 examples. We believe the case is unpolished, with some wear. The watch is paired on a Rolex “Big Logo” stretch bracelet with 65 end links dating to the 2nd quarter of 1959, which was added to the watch. The luminous dauphine hour and minute hands have tritium and are possibly replaced. The original non-luminous dial is in beautiful condition. The watch features the original and rare non-luminous bezel insert and rotating bezel. Many Milgauss reference 6541 examples had smooth non-rotating bezels for the American market, but the rotating bezel examples are extremely rare. The case back has an engraved “ROLEX OYSTER CASE” along the edge, which is a very neat and unusual detail. The red MILGAUSS text has faded to a beautiful pink. The watch is fresh to market and came from the nephew of the original owner in Canada.
The watch does not come with box and papers. The watch was recently serviced and is running well. It recently passed a water resistance test of 3 bar.
This Rolex Milgauss reference 6541 is truly a dream and a special opportunity for a connoisseur to get one of the rarest Rolex sports models from the 1950s.
