Rolex Submariner 1680 Gold

The gold Submariner reference 1680 (sometimes called the 1680/8 with the /8 meaning it was made in yellow gold) was the first Submariner model to feature a gold case. The present watch is in very nice condition with beautiful original dial, hands, and bezel insert. I particularly like the original early gold bracelet, which has the error that says “PATETED” instead of “PATENTED” on the inside of the diver’s extension. In addition, the Rolex coronet logo on these early bracelets is on the flip lock rather than on the center of the bracelet clasp, which I find to be a beautiful and nice touch. The case has been lightly polished, but is in strong condition. Overall, this is a very nice example of the original gold Submariner reference 1680, which is much rarer to find than most people realize.

This watch is from circa 1971, does not include the original box and papers, has an automatic movement (Caliber 1575 made by Rolex), and is 40mm in diameter.
