Collector Check-In: Ian Zinn

By Eric Wind and Charlie Dunne

Those that know Ian Zinn know that he is a great friend, wonderful husband and father, and great financial advisor to his clients. What many might not know is that he is passionate about watches and in the midst of growing his watch collection.

When he is not working, Ian can often be seen with his family at The Beach Club in Palm Beach, sometimes playing tennis and sometimes in the pool or on the beach with his wife Abby and their three young girls. Those that know his wife, Abby Kunhardt Zinn, know she is one of the nicest and most refined young women they will ever meet - an amazing artist, gracious host, and wonderful mother to their three girls. A bit of trivia: Abby is the great-granddaughter of Dorothy Kunhardt, the author of the beloved children’s book Pat the Bunny and her great aunt was Edith Kunhardt, the author of Pat the Cat and Pat the Puppy. Abby has some wrist heat of her own and I expect that she will be a future subject for a Collector Check-in.

Ian has had a longtime love of watches that he has been developing over recent years. Shortly before their wedding in May 2014, Abby was unable to restrain herself to wait and gave Ian a Cartier Tank engraved with the date of their forthcoming nuptials: “6-14-14 / Love, your wife”. Ian has worn that watch in many important business meetings over the years as he has advanced his career.

More recently, Ian purchased his first vintage watch, a Rolex “Wide Boy” Datejust reference 1601. It has a beautiful silver dial and the wide hour markers and hands give it a sportier look. It is also a very refined and elegant timepiece on its Jubilee bracelet. Ian also is a fan of the company Rowing Blazers, and recently acquired a Rowing Blazers X Seiko 5 Sports Colorblock model that is a perfect companion to Palm Beach life.

When asked what was on Ian’s radar for a future watch, he emphasized the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was his dream watch. He had first learned about it prior to becoming passionate about watches when asking a colleague about their timepiece. The design had been embedded in his mind since, and years later it has remained fascinating. When he is ready to pull the trigger, Wind Vintage will be there ready to assist him in finding this grail watch!
