Rolex Tropical PCG GMT-Master Reference 1675 Unpolished Full Set

The Rolex GMT-Master was originally designed for Pan Am pilots in the 1950s and continues to be a flagship model for Rolex to this day. The reference 1675 was introduced in 1959 and remained in production until 1980.

This is an out of this world GMT-Master reference 1675 featuring a 0.504M serial number dating to circa 1960. The watch was sold in 1961. It is one of the earliest reference 1675s and features a beautiful tropical dial. This watch was sold in The Bahamas, and the dial faded to this beautiful color from exposure to the tropical sun.

The watch overall is in fantastic condition. The aluminum bezel insert is extremely attractive and it features the early “coke bottle top” bezel with sharp knurling. It features the pointed crown guard or “PCG” style case which is seen until circa 1963-1964. We believe the case is unpolished.

We do not know the service history, but it is running well. It comes with box and papers. This is a Rolex GMT-Master reference 1675 I would love to personally own and consider a grail example. Of the earliest “Chapter Ring, Pointed-Crown-Guard” models, I have only held two that I believe to be unpolished - one formerly belonging to The Great Charlie Dunne, and the other being this one! It recently passed a water resistance test of 3 bar.

Rolex Concorde GMT-Master 1675 in 18K Yellow Gold Unpolished

The Rolex GMT-Master was originally designed for Pan Am pilots in the 1950s and continues to be a flagship model for Rolex to this day. The present watch is an exceptionally preserved and unpolished example of a GMT-Master in 18k gold with an extremely rare straight hour and minute hands nicknamed the "Concorde" due to its appearance in a Rolex advertisement about Concorde pilots from the late 1960s.

I believe one special characteristic those watches that are original have versus those where people have swapped the hour and minute hands recently is that the minute hand is extremely thin on the real ones and is also very thin in the original Rolex advertisement, whereas many I see today have thick minute hands.

I have only sold a handful of Rolex Concordes, and this is the nicest one I have sold. It is featured in the Reference Points video. I sold another amazing example on bracelet years back, but that one was not on the gold 7206 bracelet like this one (which is nearly impossible to find). This bracelet was added to the watch.

We believe the case is unpolished. The beautiful bevels on the edge of the case and perfectly faded bezel insert get me excited each time I see this watch.

It comes from the grandson of the original owner, who was a prominent lady in Michigan. The grandson has had this watch for over 20 years. Vintage Rolex watches in 31mm are extremely uncommon and have become extremely popular, probably partially due to the fact that @watchabbie wears a 31mm vintage Rolex!
