Photo Report: Windup Watch Fair NYC 2022
Words by Eric Wind, Photos by Charlie Dunne and Eric Wind
This was our first time attending the Windup Watch Fair and we certainly do not expect it to be our last. It was three of our most intense, but rewarding days of 2022. Over the course of three days, we easily met and spoke with over 1,000 watch collectors, from young still in high school or college that are in their earliest days of collecting to those with collections worth millions developed over decades. It was exciting on a few fronts: first, it was the first public event we had done in New York City since 2019 (probably since the March 2019 speech I gave to the Horological Society of New York) and felt like NYC was open again. Second, the amount of watch lovers that came through was astonishing and reflects positively on the present and future state of the watch market. Most of the weekend we had a line about 3 wide and 5 deep of people to speak with us. Third, we were thrilled to see many young women visit our booth that are getting serious about collecting vintage watches.
My colleague Charlie Dunne had about 2 minutes total of not having visitors at the booth between all three days of Windup and we were amazed by what a positive, community-centered event it was. We wish to congratulate Worn & Wound for organizing such an amazing result.
After packing up at the finale, James Helms inquired, “Can we count on Wind Vintage to be in attendance for Windup San Francisco and Windup Chicago?” Without hesitation, Charlie and I emphasized that we cannot wait for the Windup Watch Fairs next year.
We hope you enjoy this modem burner of a photo report, and we hope we were able to snap a shot of your timepiece if you visited us! Thank you to all of you that came out to visit and to all our friends at Windup and Worn & Wound for having us!
