What's Selling Where: A Couple Sub-1k Vintage Watches with Breguet Numerals and A Whole Lot More

It has been quite a few years since I wrote my Bring A Loupe column for HODINKEE and I recently decided it might be worthwhile restarting my old What’s Selling Where column again here on the Wind Vintage blog. I see some interesting things for sale on eBay and other random places on occasion and it seems a shame to just let them sit without highlighting them. Special thanks to my friend Daniel Benyamin in Oklahoma for his hunting and Charlie Dunne (Director of Content and Research for Wind Vintage) for his assistance in putting this together! I hope you like it and please let us know if you want us to continue doing this column! And I have nothing to do with any of these, so as always do your own due diligence before you purchase them and just assume they will need a service or may need other TLC. You are not buying from Wind Vintage if you are buying these random watches and things!

Vintage Girard-Perregaux for Starr & Gorham with Breguet Numerals

This Girard-Perregaux is crazy. I love the engraving on the back with “W.A. / 1942.” The dial was presumably made by the legendary Stern Frères. The dial shows the Starr & Gorham retailer signature, which is interesting - often we see watches with Black, Starr & Frost, but in 1929 it became Black, Starr & Frost — Gorham. It is super unusual and a fun small watch for the money: $680 on Etsy.

Patek Philippe Circa 1930s Ladies Watch

This Patek Philippe was sold at Guillermin in Paris and is probably a little bit too expensive, but is a super cool piece. The dial looks original from what I can see in the photos of it outside of the case. I love the blue Patek Philippe leather box with the Guillermin signature inside.

January 1972 Watch Band Calendar

This is a rare January 1972 watch tag which was meant to go on the bracelet of a watch. The one side is in gold for gold-tone watches and the other side is in silver for silver-tone / steel watches. I bought an old Speedmaster once from the 1970s that had one of these on the bracelet. I do see them occasionally on eBay when you could get a box of them offered from various regional banks sometimes for their customers. I think these hilarious and cool, particularly if you have a 1971 or 1972 watch (or maybe you were born in January 1972). It is a fun little thing to put on a watch like putting on a compass or thermometer on a dive watch (more on those dive gauges coming up on the Wind Vintage blog in the future!).

Vintage Movado Ermeto Purse Pocket Watch w/ Full Set

We also have this super cool Movado Ermeto. It is in the original box with the kind of cowboy hat M logo and I love that it has all the original paperwork from Gobbi in Milan. These is an amazing item for under $500! Check it out here:

Heuer Stopwatch Retailed by Herga & Co in Brisbane, Australia Stopwatch

I am a sucker for retailer-signed stop watches. Of course Abercrombie, but also sometimes you see crazy unusual retailers. I’m unfamiliar with Herga & Co. in Brisbane, Australia. I really like the seller WatchAdoption. They have cool stuff on there and I have bought a few things from them over the years!

Medana 5:00 Watch

This Medana is a fun one, represent that it is always five o'clock somewhere for happy hour. It has a hidden UFO-style design without lugs. It’s way too expensive, but I just think it is a funny watch and is worth highlighting. It is somewhat reminiscent of the John Glenn LeCoultre that had a series of 12 13s on the watch and sold at auction a few years ago. You can see it listed on Etsy here:

Casio Golf Watch GG-9

I love Casio watches and my son Charlie wears a G-Shock everyday. I did not know that Casio made a golf video game watch and it is just a cool thing! You can find it on Etsy:

Universal Geneve with Breguet Numerals

I enjoyed seeing this Universal Geneve as it is quite attractive and has Breguet numerals. It has a funky stretch vintage bracelet from the period. It appears the tail of the second hand is broken off, but UG had a number of watches in the 40s and 50s that were designed without a tail on the central seconds hand so it is quite possibly original. It is a small watch and the dial on this one may possibly be reprinted, but it is hard to argue with the $309 price, especially since the seller said it had a recent service.

Movado St. Christopher Coin Watch

I love coin watches and really enjoy the Movado Saint Christopher coin watches. They are sterling silver and this example has non-luminous dial and hands the dial. The dial was almost certainly made by Stern. You can read Charlie Dunne’s extensive write up about his Movado Saint Christopher coin watch at this link. It is just such a cool watch for the money!

Asprey 1939 Catalog

I love vintage Asprey watches. This is a catalog from 1939 includes a number of Asprey watches and is just spectacular. Please buy this so I do not purchase it myself and put it on my bookshelf!

Breitling Store Signs

I believe these are Breitling signs which date to the 1990s. They are not too far from us in Florida and I think our super cool. Each would make a nice addition to someone's man cave or office!

Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 6285 with War Hero Provenance

This Rolex is a little bit expensive, otherwise I would have considered purchasing it myself. However, it seems to have a pretty wonderful history as the original owner was supposedly awarded the Legion of Merit. It also has a cool waffle dial and straight end link bracelet. I love the full set nature of it it and it does not scream to me that the set is put together (but as always you should do your own research and check out that all the numbers are correct and matching). You can see it here:

OMEGA Dynamic

OMEGA Dynamics are very interesting watches. I have spoken about them with Michael Friedman formerly of Audemars Piguet previously and we both have a strong appreciation of them! The Dynamics generally are not well loved by the watch community, but they offer great value. It is hard to find a cool vintage watch with a great integrated bracelet like this for under $1,000 and it's got a cool orange second hand as well!

Eterna-Matic Chronometer

This Eterna-Matic chronometer has one of those classic horrendous photos and very cheap watch listings. It has a chronometer-rated movement that I know would get our friend Bill Sohne excited because he just adores anything that has a chronometer-rated movement! This is listed for $120, but do your own research. I hope you can get more photos. It appears the lume might be missing a little bit from the minute hand, but hard to argue with the price. I'm just curious to see the rest of the watch!
